2026 Global Heat Pump Trends

July 29, 2026

The International Energy Agency’s Heat Pump Monitor 2026 shows that global heat-pump sales for buildings have stabilised after earlier fluctuations and are expected to resume growth in the coming years. Air-source units continue to dominate, while industrial, district-heating and multi-application deployments are expanding. These developments provide a clear technological direction for the industry.

2026 Global Heat Pump Trends

Trend 1: Natural refrigerants continue to expand

Tightening F-Gas regulations and the Kigali Amendment are accelerating the shift to natural refrigerants such as R290 (propane). With a low global-warming potential and solid efficiency across a wide temperature range, R290 is seeing broader adoption. Nancent has rolled out its R290 product portfolio, covering Ice Bath Chiller, Spa Heat Pump, Swimming Pool Heat Pump, Space Heating Heat Pump, Hot Water Heat Pump, Dehumidifier, Heat Pump Float Tank and Super Heat Pump, helping customers better navigate regulatory changes.

Trend 2: Cold-climate and all-condition performance draws more attention

Demand for reliable low-temperature operation is rising across Europe and North America. In the United States, air-source heat-pump sales have remained resilient even after the federal tax credit expired at the end of 2025, continuing to outpace gas furnaces for multiple consecutive years (see related analysis). Reliable cold-climate performance is becoming a key focus for more customers.

Trend 3: Growing demand for PV direct-drive and energy management

Electricity-price volatility and gas-price changes have made “more heat from less electricity” a top customer concern. PV direct-drive technology combined with thermal storage in hot-water tanks allows surplus solar energy to be converted into heat during the day and used at night. Nancent’s Sun Air series supports prioritising solar power and automatically entering heat-storage mode, helping users reduce operating costs.

Our Ocean and Sun Air series are designed around these trends:

  • Full-inverter technology for more precise temperature control and efficiency;

  • R290 natural refrigerant to meet relevant regulatory requirements;

  • Operation down to -25°C;

  • PV direct-drive with thermal storage capability;

  • Low-noise design suitable for residential noise limits.

With a full range of solutions covering residential heating, hot water, swimming pools, spas, ice baths and more, Nancent serves customers in over 60 countries and regions with strong customisation capability.

“Heal the planet.” This is our brand philosophy. In 2026 we look forward to working with more partners worldwide to advance comfort and sustainability together through efficient heat pump technology. Visit the Nancent website or contact our team to explore the right solution for your market.
